Ti minutter
Read at home with your child
The school and you teach your child to read together. If you practise ten minutes a day together, and you also read aloud from a book, your child is well on the way to becoming a strong reader.
The words, the letters and the reading texts stay in Danish. That is what your child is learning to read. Everything else on this page is here to help you help.
Ten minutes, here is how:
1, 2, 3 every day. That adds up to more than an hour a week with your child.
The words first
Your child points at each letter, says the sound and blends them together. Tap the speaker if you are unsure how a word is pronounced.
Then the whole text
Read it twice if you can: the first time to get the words right, the second time to make it sound like a text that hangs together.
Talk about it
Three questions about the text are on the page. Colour a star in the reading passport when you are done.
Choose a step
Eight steps, from the first letters to a text with several paragraphs.
STEP 1The names of the letters, one set at a time.
STEP 2Words spelled exactly as they sound.
STEP 3Sentences of three to five words.
STEP 4Five to eight sentences with a drawing.
STEP 5More sentences and words like stranden.
STEP 6Words you cannot sound out.
STEP 7The text carries the story on its own.
STEP 8A longer text split into paragraphs.
Not sure which step? Ask the teacher, or start at step 1 and move on as soon as it feels easy.
